Sandvik 12C27 is a stainless steel with a fine microstructure and a balanced ratio of edge retention, toughness, and sharpenability. The steel is often used for high-quality everyday, outdoor, and pocket knives.
Three key characteristics of the steel: Edge Retention, Corrosion Resistance, and Sharpenability
Edge Retention: medium
★★★☆☆
12C27 achieves solid edge retention and allows for a stable edge due to its fine structure.
Corrosion Resistance: high
★★★★☆
The chromium content ensures good corrosion resistance, making the steel suitable for humid environments.
Sharpenability: very good
★★★★★
The fine carbide structure allows for easy sharpening and a very fine edge geometry.
Areas of Application
Pocket Knives: The combination of easy maintenance and balanced cutting properties makes 12C27 a versatile steel for pocket knives.
Outdoor: Good corrosion resistance and toughness support use in changing conditions.
Kitchen: The ability to create a fine edge also makes the steel suitable for kitchen knives.
