Böhler N690 is a premium rust-resistant knife steel with a balanced combination of edge retention, corrosion resistance, and good sharpenability. Due to its cobalt content and balanced alloy, it is particularly suitable for high-quality pocket knives, outdoor, and utility knives.
Three central characteristics of the steel: Edge retention, rust resistance, and sharpenability
Edge Retention: high
★★★★☆
The carbon and vanadium content enable high achievable hardness and a stable edge with good wear resistance.
Rust Resistance: high
★★★★☆
The high chromium content ensures very good corrosion resistance and reduces maintenance effort in everyday use.
Sharpenability: good
★★★★☆
Despite its good hardness, N690 is comparatively easy to resharpen and allows for a fine edge.
Areas of Application
Pocket Knives & EDC: The combination of edge retention, rust resistance, and good sharpenability makes N690 a versatile steel for high-quality everyday knives.
Outdoor: The balanced combination of hardness, corrosion resistance, and toughness is suitable for versatile outdoor knives.
Kitchen: The ability to create a fine edge and good rust resistance also makes N690 interesting for kitchen knives.
