Böker M4 Sherman Damascus – A Pocket Knife with History
The Böker M4 Sherman Damascus combines historical materials, elaborate craftsmanship, and an extraordinary design. The inspiration for this special pocket knife comes from the American M4 Sherman, one of the most famous tanks of the Second World War. Its characteristic lines are reflected in numerous details of the knife.
The M4 Sherman was produced in large numbers starting in 1942 and was deployed on almost all battlefields of the Second World War. With nearly 50,000 units built, it was the most produced tank of the Western Allies. The Böker M4 Sherman Damascus picks up this history and combines it with a modern, high-quality EDC pocket knife from the Böker Manufactory Solingen.
Damascus blade made from historical Sherman material
The most extraordinary feature of the knife is the Damascus blade made from historical materials from the production of M4 Sherman tanks. Together with the Americans in Wartime Museum in Virginia, materials from previously restored Sherman tanks were preserved for this project and forged into a unique Damascus steel.
The Damascus, hand-forged by Chad Nichols, consists of 80 layers and features a Customized Ladder pattern. The structure is reminiscent of the tracks left in the ground by the heavy tracks of the M4 Sherman. This makes every knife an individual piece of history.
The 7.7 cm long and 3.6 mm thick blade is ball-bearing mounted and can be opened comfortably via the thumb stud. A sturdy steel framelock handles the secure locking. The integrated Hinderer Lock-Stop serves as an overtravel stop and protects the locking mechanism from excessive stress.
Micarta handle and Sherman-inspired details
The historical template is also consistently taken up in the handle design. The slightly contoured handle scale made of Jute Micarta sits comfortably in the hand, and its coloring is reminiscent of the camouflage paint used by the U.S. Army and the Marine Corps.
Particularly striking is the decorative blade pivot screw, whose design is reminiscent of the characteristic main drive sprocket of the Sherman. Together with the shape of the knife, this creates a cohesive overall design that picks up on the historical original without sacrificing the functionality of a modern pocket knife.
High-quality equipment for collectors
With an overall length of 17.5 cm and a weight of 107.0 g, the M4 Sherman Damascus remains compact enough for everyday use. A lanyard hole and the practical deep-carry clip for tip-up carry on the right side round out the equipment.
Each knife is handcrafted in the Böker Knife Manufactory Solingen and delivered with an elegant floating display, certificate of authenticity, and individual serial number. This makes the model not only an extraordinary EDC knife but also a collector's item for enthusiasts of historical military technology and special knife-making artistry.
Support for the Americans in Wartime Museum
A portion of the proceeds from every knife sold goes to the Americans in Wartime Museum in Virginia. The non-profit cultural and educational institution is dedicated to preserving and conveying American military history and supports, among other things, educational programs as well as the preservation of historical vehicles and artifacts.
The Böker M4 Sherman Damascus thus not only combines extraordinary materials and Solingen craftsmanship but also helps to preserve historical evidence for future generations.
