The Lüneburg Glockenhaus – From Armory to Landmark

The Glockenhaus in the heart of the city is one of Lüneburg's oldest buildings and has a turbulent past. Built between 1482 and 1483, it served as the city's armory and arsenal in the Middle Ages, where armor, weapons, and military equipment were stored. The massive oak from which these handle scales are made was part of this historic building for centuries and witnessed the Hanseatic period, when Lüneburg prospered from the salt trade. Today, the Glockenhaus is a landmark of the city, and its centuries-old oak wood finds a new, functional purpose through these knife handles.
