When history fits in your hand – knife handles made from Lüneburg Glockenhaus oak
There are places that tell stories the moment you enter them. In Lüneburg, the Glockenhaus is one such place: a monumental brick building from the 15th century, whose walls have witnessed centuries of salt trading, armory, and city history. That we, as a traditional Lüneburg specialist retailer, are allowed to carry on a piece of this history – not in stone, but in wood – fills us with great pride.
Our roots in Lüneburg – and beyond
Our family business has been deeply rooted in Lüneburg for three generations. Our grandfather stood behind the counter here since 1957, advising customers, and some of our regular customers have been with us for decades. Quite a few travel from far away, even from Bavaria, to choose their new favorite knife from us. This proximity and loyalty are not something we take for granted; they are the core of what we do: building trust, living quality, and preserving tradition.
The Glockenhaus: Centuries of history at your fingertips
The Glockenhaus is one of our city's most striking buildings, built between 1482 and 1484 and firmly anchored in the city's history ever since. Originally used as a weapons and grain store, later almost degraded to a parking garage, it was only preserved through the dedication of the local community. Today, it serves as a cultural center and a monument to North German Brick Gothic architecture.
We had the rare fortune of being able to use old oak wood from the Glockenhaus for our work. We used these centuries-old beams to craft handle scales for selected knife projects, thus giving a piece of Lüneburg's history a second purpose: from a supporting beam in the Middle Ages to a comfortable hand piece in the present.
Tradition meets modernity – collaboration with Böker and Nesmuk
We are particularly proud of our collaboration with the traditional Solingen companies Böker and Nesmuk. In 2017, Nesmuk created an exclusive chef's knife series with Glockenhaus wooden handles, which you can only find in our store. And recently, we were able to realize another highlight with Böker: the handle scales for the Böker BFF Packlite made from the oak of the Lüneburg Glockenhaus , exclusively for us.
For us, these projects are more than just products. They combine everything that's important to us: the centuries-old history of our hometown, the appreciation of materials with soul, the passion for fine craftsmanship, and the friendship with the Solingen knife makers who masterfully combine tradition and modern manufacturing technology.
Anyone holding a knife with Glockenhaus oak handles isn't just carrying a tool, but a piece of living history. And for us, as a Lüneburg family business, it's a special joy to be able to bridge this gap between past, present, and future.
