Burg Castle is the landmark of the Bergisches Land and sits high above the Wupper River, not far from the Böker Manufaktur. Count Adolf II of Berg had the hilltop castle, completed in 1133, built on the foundations of a 10th-century fortification. Today, it is one of the largest castles in western Germany and is inextricably linked to the Duchy of Berg and the Counts of Berg (1068 to 1225). Even today, Burg Castle reflects the enormous wealth of the Counts and their far-reaching influence in the Rhineland-Westphalia region. For example, Count Engelbert II of Berg was also Archbishop of Cologne.
Since the company history of Böker can be traced back to 1674 with the first registration of the tree as a trademark for hand tools, we are also very strongly connected to the Bergisches Land region historically and are in regular contact with the historians of Burg Castle. Large parts of the castle are currently being renovated to their original state, including the replacement of ancient, solid oak planks. This gave us the idea of preserving this historical material for posterity and professionally processing it into handle shells in our manufactory.
Based on this, we have designed a historically significant knife line with seven traditional knife models in the Böker Schloss Burg series. In addition to the sheaths made of historical oak wood from Schloss Burg, the models are characterized by the use of brass plates and the carbon steel O1 as blade material. To emphasize the authenticity of the knives, the blades are given a special acid wash finish, which also protects them from harmful environmental influences. All models are handcrafted in the Böker manufactory in Solingen, are strictly limited to 1133 pieces worldwide, and are delivered with the reissued historical Böker tree emblem.
The characteristic teardrop shape of the Barlow can be traced back to English pocket knives of the 17th century, making it certainly one of the oldest models ever. The name of the classic probably goes back to a similarly named, successful knife producer from Sheffield, who began exporting the robust knives to North America around 1800. There they immediately enjoyed great popularity, and so the first Barlow models also appeared in the history of the Böker Manufaktur at the end of the 19th century. The newly interpreted Böker Barlow Prime is equipped with shorter cheeks. The blade is fitted with a modern, elongated false edge, and the operating safety of the slip joint is increased by a 90-degree locking mechanism when opening and closing. With individual serial number.
