Böker Naturensöhne MK. I – 7 vs. Wild Knife

Gerrit and Andy, better known by the name of their eponymous YouTube channel "Naturensöhne" (Sons of Nature), inspire more than 490,000 followers on YouTube alone with their diverse and entertaining content about bushcrafting, camping, hiking and equipment - and the trend is strongly rising.

We started working with the two Berliners on the concept of our own Naturensöhne knife more than two years ago. Their nomination for the 3rd season of the successful YouTube format "7 vs. Wild," where seven teams must survive in the wilderness with self-selected equipment, has significantly increased the demands on our joint project. Since all equipment must fit into a 1-liter Nalgene bottle, we had to completely rethink the dimensions of the robust outdoor knife.

The result is the Naturensöhne MK. I: a special edition of our successful Böker Bronco outdoor/bushcraft model. While the full-size handle securely encloses the full tang, ensuring the usual excellent grip and handling, the blade offers exactly what is expected from the most important tool in uncompromising outdoor use in 14 days in Canada: exceptional edge retention, shock resistance, fracture toughness and splinter resistance. This is made possible not only by the powder metallurgical blade steel CPM 3V, but also by the attractive premium Hardur coating, which is used exclusively in high-quality cutting and stamping tools. The approximately 5µm thick hard substance layer, which also covers the cutting edge, increases the service life of the blade many times over and also ensures a friction-reduced surface.

As lovers of a true Scandi grind, the choice of blade grind was non-negotiable for the Naturensöhne. The advantages are obvious: the extremely sharp edge requires no secondary phase. Especially when batoning, the Scandi grind proves very good splitting properties and high stability, as the full blade thickness is maintained over approximately 2/3 of the blade height. The resulting higher weight of the blade also offers more mass when chopping than a flat grind. The handle material used is the thermoplastic TPE. This is indestructible and, in addition to a perfect grip, ensures the desired work safety in both dry and wet conditions.

The premium equipment is rounded off by a compact Kydex sheath, which, thanks to the Ulticlips included in the scope of delivery, ensures that the most important tool does not get lost along the way.
