Casström leather strop

Casström knives are delivered razor-sharp from the factory. To ensure this exceptional sharpness is maintained over the long term, Casström complements its product range with its own series of handcrafted leather strops. These support regular edge maintenance and contribute to a noticeably longer edge retention.

Two versions for different uses

The Field Strop is the compact solution for on the go. Thanks to its handy size, it easily fits in a backpack or bag and is ideal for outdoor activities.

The paddle strop offers a larger stropping surface and is ideal for thorough sharpening maintenance at home, in the workshop, or at base camp. The more generous surface area allows for particularly comfortable work.

What is a strop and what is it used for?

A strop is used to maintain and refine the fine cutting edge of a knife. With regular use, ideally after each use, the sharpness lasts significantly longer. This reduces the need for more intensive resharpening with coarser abrasives such as diamond or water stones.

Application of Stroke

To use, the blade is placed flat on the leather. The blade is then drawn across the leather with light pressure towards the spine of the knife, so that the edge points away from the direction of movement. This process is repeated approximately twenty times per side.

One side of the strop has a coarser surface, the other is finer. A polishing paste can be applied to the coarser side if needed to further enhance the abrasive effect.
