Heckler & Koch HK MP7 Personal Duty Knife

Military utility knives, regardless of their intended purpose, have always been used more as tools for the work involved in the field and daily service than as weapons. Tenders or contracts specifically designed for this purpose in the history of regularly issued service knives are rare, but have been repeatedly undertaken by shrewd procurement agencies. Examples include the M1880 Hunting and M1890 Intrenching Knife of the US Army, the little-known and rare Kampf- und Wirtschaftsmesser 45 of the Wehrmacht, and the still-in-service MOD-Knife of the British Army.

The HK MP7 Personal Duty Knife (PDK) continues this tradition and is uncompromisingly designed for versatility in all tactical and practical tasks of the army and authorities. It meets all the requirements of a combat knife as well as a modern outdoor, bushcraft, and hunting knife. Because it is a personal piece of equipment for soldiers, it was named MP7 Personal Duty Knife (PDW) in reference to the HK MP7 submachine gun, which follows the Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) concept. It incorporates strong functional properties of the namesake firearm, such as ergonomics and grip texture, handling, high-quality workmanship, and reliability. For the heart of the knife, the universal black-coated spearpoint blade, Swedish 14C28N steel was chosen. Through the addition of manganese and nitrogen (manganese increases the solubility of nitrogen in the matrix), this steel has high hardness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance with a fine microstructure. This increases shock and fracture elasticity as well as resharpenability. The tang extends completely through the handle, as can be seen in the lanyard hole. However, it is not exposed at the end to allow pressure or a light blow with the heel of the hand to be exerted on this point. The one-piece, firmly molded handle is made of indestructible fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN). To meet all application situations, a modular carrying system based on a Kydex sheath was developed for the HK MP7 PDK. The knife's fit in the precise form-fitting sheath is deep and secure, so an additional closure could be dispensed with. Optionally, a strong nylon belt loop or a MOLLE-compatible steel clip can be attached.
